Samsung Wave S8500
Samsung Wave S8500
Samsung Wave S8500:
- runs on Bada OS
- features a gorgeous S-Amoled 3.3″ inch touchscreen
- WVGA 800×480 resolution
- Bluetooth 3.0 (one of the first ones)
- Wifi
- HSDPA
- 1Ghz processor
- 2Gb storage
- 5Mp digital camera (although a 8Mp or 12 would have been better)
- 720p video recording capabilities
This wonderful piece of technology should be out in April this year, but by looking at the specs, we expect a really mean price.
Our opinion ? Good on paper, top performance specs, but what happened with the “OS” ? Bada ? Couldn’t they find something more usable, let’s say Android ?

Symbian^3 in action

The Nokia N8 also offers multiple, personalizable homescreens which can be loaded with apps and widgets. The new 2D and 3D graphics architecture in the platform takes full advantage of the Nokia N8’s hardware acceleration to deliver a faster and more responsive user interface. Symbian^3 also raises the bar in performance by delivering greater memory management allowing more applications to run in parallel for a faster multi-tasking experience.

Getting Qt for Developers
The Nokia N8 is Nokia’s first device to be integrated with Qt, a software development environment that simplifies the development and makes it possible to build applications once and deploy across Symbian and other software platforms. Nokia has also made the powerful and simple to use Nokia Qt SDK available, in its initial beta, to enable developers to start realizing the potential of Qt.
NOKIA C-series press release
Starting at EUR 30 with ‘2-in-1′ double-SIM solution; full dual-SIM Nokia C2 to follow at the end of the fourth quarter
Nairobi, Kenya - At a media conference held today in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, Nokia unveiled its latest Cseries mobile phones with three new products under the Nokia C1 name, as well as the new dual-SIM Nokia C2 which will follow at the end of the fourth quarter of 2010. At the same event, Nokia also took the wraps off the Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit, an alternative charging solution built especially for people with limited access to electricity.
The most affordable of the Nokia C1 trio (C1-00) is priced at EUR 30 before taxes and subsidies and is the first Nokia mobile phone to feature a 2-in-1 double SIM solution. “By simply holding down a key, people are able to switch between SIM cards. This enables them to take advantage of reduced call rates, flexibility when traveling from one country to another, or helps with sharing a phone within a family and still use their own SIM,” said Alex Lambeek, Vice President at Nokia. “This is a great added convenience feature considering the low price of the phone.”

Nokia C1 owners will also benefit from a standby battery time of up to six weeks, the longest ever for a Nokia mobile phone, especially useful in those parts of the world where access to electricity is sometimes limited. The standard flashlight - often someone’s only means of bright light - is paired with a vivid color screen and FM radio with standard headphone jack, meaning the Nokia C1 is as much about entertainment as it is about convenience.
The Nokia C2 features a dual SIM with dual standby capability. Along with the many capabilities of the Nokia C1, the Nokia C2 can also keep both SIM cards active; meaning calls and text messages can come to either number while the phone is on. The first SIM card on the Nokia C2 sits underneath the battery and the second is ‘hot-swappable’, a feature unique to Nokia which means it can be removed and inserted when the phone is on.

Where available, the Nokia C2 also offers a wide range of information covering healthcare, agriculture, education and entertainment via Nokia’s Ovi Life Tools, as well as the email account for the developing world, Ovi Mail. In addition to Ovi Mail, people’s favorite consumer email and chat accounts can be pushed direct to the phone via Nokia Messaging. Listening to music is simple with the FM radio and music player, with a massive amount of music storage with the phone supporting micro-SD cards of up to 32GB.
The second and third devices in the Nokia C1 family (C1-01 and C1-02) are both single SIM products, and Nokia’s most affordable devices offering microSD compatibility, enabling people to store up to 32 GB of music, photography, or whatever other media suits them. Both new devices bring very individual designs and exciting colors, bright color screens, web browsing over GPRS and access to Nokia web services such as Nokia Messaging. In addition, owners of the Nokia C1 (C1-01) will also be able to take video and photographs using the built-in VGA camera.

New alternative charging solution debuts
Providing free and environmentally friendly electricity for mobile phones, the Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit consists of a charger and dynamo, as well as a holder to secure the phone to the bike. When the kit is installed, the dynamo - a small electrical generator - uses the movement of the wheels to charge the handset through the standard 2mm charging jack used in most Nokia mobile phones. Lambeek continued, “You must look at a number of things when it comes to power management - such as ensuring the phone’s operating system is as power-efficient as possible. Now, with our innovative bike charger, people get even more freedom to use their Nokia without worrying about battery life. Bicycles are the most widespread means of transport in many markets around the world, so this is just one more benefit to be gained from an activity people are already doing. This is a great solution to a real challenge, whether people will use it due to limited access to electricity, or to be more environmentally responsible.” The kit will be available before the end of the year in selected retailers and Nokia online and branded retail.

iPhone 4 first GSM32 impressions
Let’s see the 8 new features
from the keynote.

iphone 4
1 - the new design
Of course we are all for that “slim”
24% thinner than other iPhones, and thinnest smartphone on the planet.
“one of the most beautiful designs you ever seen” - but I like the curved way of the ex-iPhones. Now it looks like any other old-leica !
Better antennas - of course iPhone needs that, Nokia 1100 at 30$ has better signal quality, it was about time.
BTW WIFI : During the keynote - Steve Jobs “I don’t know what’s wrong with my networks” - LOLZ - the iPhone 4 crashed near the iPhone 3GS.
2 The new iPhone 4 has a great new screen.
Basically higher resolution, better quality - true. They used IPS LCD screen with 960×640 resolution.
While Samsung gives almost all new touchscreen phones at least with AMOLED if not SAMOLED.
Let me break it down for you, iPhone 4 uses IPS - in-panel-switching
![]()
But I wonder why Apple did not mention the fact that IPS will drain your battery twice quicker ? Steve Jobs says that the screen should stay on for 10 hours, probably Nexus One with AMOLED will achieve that, but the iPhone 4 I doubt it !
AMOLED is better than IPS (at least for mobile phones)
What about SAMOLED ? That should give 20% brighter screen, 80% less sunlight reflection, 20% reduced power consumption.
Nexus One and Samsung phones still have a better color gamut, lower power consumption, better angles, better under sunlight, so on.
Don’t get me wrong, Apple still does better a better job than LG, Nokia, Philips, Motorola etc.
3 “The iPhone 4 is powered by A4 chip “
and
“we made the battery bit bigger”
Which should mean better battery standby and talk time.
Using a higher resolution and high consumption screen + A4 with “best” but still “hungry” it won’t matter the “bigger” size of the battery, you will still won’t get more than 1 or maybe 2 days standby+normal usage.

iphone 4
4 “we are adding a gyroscope” + “accelerometer” = 6 axis motions sensing.
“perfect for gaming” - that sounds cool if you have a full battery.
“this phones get more and more intelligent”
Can’t comment we love intelligent phones
5 “capturing photons and low light photography”
The new iPhone 4 uses a 5Mp sensor with backside illuminated sensor. They say this camera should bring better pictures.
No argument there, Steve Jobs is right, they pack more megapixel but the quality is still bad when you take a pic.
YAY flash, a feature that APPLE “invented”, I am sure that you “can’t” find any other phone on the market with a flash. But we are glad that Apple figured out the fact that you can put a flash near the camera.
“the camera also records HD video 720p at 30fps” and “iMovie for iPhone” which sounds GREAT !

iphone 4 camera 5mp
Via gizmodo
6 “Iphone OS 4 he most advanced mobile OS in the worlds” renamed “iOS 4″
This will feature “Multitask” - YAY can’t figure out another (Windows Mobile, Symbian) operating system that has this.
This will feature “NEW FOLDER” - YAY can’t figure out another (Windows Mobile, Symbian) operating system that has this.
Apple figured out how to invent the wheel - of course, our respects, it is a great wheel and they did it much better and easier than any other phone on the market.
7 Stores stores stores - buy buy buy
8 iADS -YAAAY more free apps / low-cost apps
better ADS
ONE MORE THING
FaceTime - Video Calling has been around for years, but it never sticked to the public, a big dilemma is : is iPhone 4 Facetime video-calling going to be a hit ?
The most likely answer is “MAYBE next year”, because you’ll need more WiFi than you can think of, more iPhones 4 sold and
“IO was dreaming about video calling and is real now” - Steve Jobs
Where has been hiding Steve for about 3-4 years ? When video calling started. I am sure you can find $50 phones with this “AMAZING” feature on the market.
“Anywhere there is wifi” - like 90% of your surroundings (sarcastic)
Huawei entry level communication devices U8100 U8110 and U8300

Huawei promised to come on the market with a cheap entry-level handset.
The U8100/U8110 features a QVGA 2.8″ inch touchscreen, 2 cameras, 3Mp digital camera, WiFi and Bluetooth. This phone runs Android OS.
It looks like they did not include any 3G capabilities, but we should wait for the price to judge them.

On the other page the Huawei U8300 looks quite cute, and has an interesting (and growing) target : SOCIAL NETWORKS. The U8300 features a full QWERTY keypad and most popular social networks built in (including Tweeter and Facebook). This phone also runs on Android OS.
But how about connectivity ? No words yet
