iPhone 4 first GSM32 impressions

Let’s see the 8 new features from the keynote.

1 - the new design
Of course we are all for that “slim” 24% thinner than other iPhones, and thinnest smartphone on the planet.
“one of the most beautiful designs you ever seen” - but I like the curved way of the ex-iPhones. Now it looks like any other old-leica !

Better antennas - of course iPhone needs that, Nokia 1100 at 30$ has better signal quality, it was about time.
BTW WIFI : During the keynote - Steve Jobs “I don’t know what’s wrong with my networks” - LOLZ - the iPhone 4 crashed near the iPhone 3GS.

2 The new iPhone 4 has a great new screen.

Basically higher resolution, better quality - true. They used IPS LCD screen with 960×640 resolution.
While Samsung gives almost all new touchscreen phones at least with AMOLED if not SAMOLED.

Let me break it down for you, iPhone 4 uses IPS - in-panel-switching

But I wonder why Apple did not mention the fact that IPS will drain your battery twice quicker ? Steve Jobs says that the screen should stay on for 10 hours, probably Nexus One with AMOLED will achieve that, but the iPhone 4 I doubt it !

AMOLED is better than IPS (at least for mobile phones)
What about SAMOLED ? That should give 20% brighter screen, 80% less sunlight reflection, 20% reduced power consumption.

Nexus One and Samsung phones still have a better color gamut, lower power consumption, better angles, better under sunlight, so on.
Don’t get me wrong, Apple still does better a better job than LG, Nokia, Philips, Motorola etc.

3 “The iPhone 4 is powered by A4 chip “
and
“we made the battery bit bigger”
Which should mean better battery standby and talk time.
Using a higher resolution and high consumption screen + A4 with “best” but still “hungry” it won’t matter the “bigger” size of the battery, you will still won’t get more than 1 or maybe 2 days standby+normal usage.

4 “we are adding a gyroscope” + “accelerometer” = 6 axis motions sensing.
“perfect for gaming” - that sounds cool if you have a full battery.
“this phones get more and more intelligent”
Can’t comment we love intelligent phones

5 “capturing photons and low light photography”
The new iPhone 4 uses a 5Mp sensor with backside illuminated sensor. They say this camera should bring better pictures.
No argument there, Steve Jobs is right, they pack more megapixel but the quality is still bad when you take a pic.

YAY flash, a feature that APPLE “invented”, I am sure that you “can’t” find any other phone on the market with a flash. But we are glad that Apple figured out the fact that you can put a flash near the camera.

“the camera also records HD video 720p at 30fps” and “iMovie for iPhone” which sounds GREAT !

6 “Iphone OS 4 he most advanced mobile OS in the worlds” renamed “iOS 4″
This will feature “Multitask” - YAY can’t figure out another (Windows Mobile, Symbian) operating system that has this.
This will feature “NEW FOLDER” - YAY can’t figure out another (Windows Mobile, Symbian) operating system that has this.
Apple figured out how to invent the wheel - of course, our respects, it is a great wheel and they did it much better and easier than any other phone on the market.

FaceTime - Video Calling has been around for years, but it never sticked to the public, a big dilemma is : is iPhone 4 Facetime video-calling going to be a hit ?
The most likely answer is “MAYBE next year”, because you’ll need more WiFi than you can think of, more iPhones 4 sold and

Where has been hiding Steve for about 3-4 years ? When video calling started. I am sure you can find $50 phones with this “AMAZING” feature on the market.
