We have good news for some, and bad news for others about 3G iPhone.

Let’s start with the bad news.

The bad news are for USA citizens, although the 8Gb 3G iPhone is now $199, the monthly contract from AT&T will be $10 more expensive for 3G data plan.

The good news.

The rest of the world will pay less for the iPhone instead of USA. How that works, instead of a monthly contract, in Italy for example they will sell the iPhone with pre-paid sim cards. The cost for the 8Gb iPhone in Europe (without the contract) will be 499 euros and 569 euros for the 16Gb model (Vodafone Italy prices).

The 499 euros mean $768 for a contract free 8Gb 3G iPhone.

Now let’s do the math for USA, $199 + monthly pay + 3G data plan = much more than $768.

Don’t get so upset, you had the first gen iPhone for 1 year, the rest of the world bought it from eBay.
