This wonderful piece of technology should be out in April this year, but by looking at the specs, we expect a really mean price.

Our opinion ? Good on paper, top performance specs, but what happened with the “OS” ? Bada ? Couldn’t they find something more usable, let’s say Android ?

Starting at EUR 30 with ‘2-in-1′ double-SIM solution; full dual-SIM Nokia C2 to follow at the end of the fourth quarter

Nairobi, Kenya - At a media conference held today in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, Nokia unveiled its latest Cseries mobile phones with three new products under the Nokia C1 name, as well as the new dual-SIM Nokia C2 which will follow at the end of the fourth quarter of 2010. At the same event, Nokia also took the wraps off the Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit, an alternative charging solution built especially for people with limited access to electricity.

The most affordable of the Nokia C1 trio (C1-00) is priced at EUR 30 before taxes and subsidies and is the first Nokia mobile phone to feature a 2-in-1 double SIM solution. “By simply holding down a key, people are able to switch between SIM cards. This enables them to take advantage of reduced call rates, flexibility when traveling from one country to another, or helps with sharing a phone within a family and still use their own SIM,” said Alex Lambeek, Vice President at Nokia. “This is a great added convenience feature considering the low price of the phone.”

Nokia C1 owners will also benefit from a standby battery time of up to six weeks, the longest ever for a Nokia mobile phone, especially useful in those parts of the world where access to electricity is sometimes limited. The standard flashlight - often someone’s only means of bright light - is paired with a vivid color screen and FM radio with standard headphone jack, meaning the Nokia C1 is as much about entertainment as it is about convenience.

Along with the many capabilities of the Nokia C1, the Nokia C2 can also keep both SIM cards active; meaning calls and text messages can come to either number while the phone is on. The first SIM card on the Nokia C2 sits underneath the battery and the second is ‘hot-swappable’, a feature unique to Nokia which means it can be removed and inserted when the phone is on.

When the kit is installed, the dynamo - a small electrical generator - uses the movement of the wheels to charge the handset through the standard 2mm charging jack used in most Nokia mobile phones. Lambeek continued, “You must look at a number of things when it comes to power management - such as ensuring the phone’s operating system is as power-efficient as possible. Now, with our innovative bike charger, people get even more freedom to use their Nokia without worrying about battery life. Bicycles are the most widespread means of transport in many markets around the world, so this is just one more benefit to be gained from an activity people are already doing. This is a great solution to a real challenge, whether people will use it due to limited access to electricity, or to be more environmentally responsible.” The kit will be available before the end of the year in selected retailers and Nokia online and branded retail.

1 - the new design
Of course we are all for that “slim” 24% thinner than other iPhones, and thinnest smartphone on the planet.
“one of the most beautiful designs you ever seen” - but I like the curved way of the ex-iPhones. Now it looks like any other old-leica !

Better antennas - of course iPhone needs that, Nokia 1100 at 30$ has better signal quality, it was about time.
BTW WIFI : During the keynote - Steve Jobs “I don’t know what’s wrong with my networks” - LOLZ - the iPhone 4 crashed near the iPhone 3GS.

2 The new iPhone 4 has a great new screen.

Basically higher resolution, better quality - true. They used IPS LCD screen with 960×640 resolution.
While Samsung gives almost all new touchscreen phones at least with AMOLED if not SAMOLED.

Let me break it down for you, iPhone 4 uses IPS - in-panel-switching

But I wonder why Apple did not mention the fact that IPS will drain your battery twice quicker ? Steve Jobs says that the screen should stay on for 10 hours, probably Nexus One with AMOLED will achieve that, but the iPhone 4 I doubt it !

AMOLED is better than IPS (at least for mobile phones)
What about SAMOLED ? That should give 20% brighter screen, 80% less sunlight reflection, 20% reduced power consumption.

Nexus One and Samsung phones still have a better color gamut, lower power consumption, better angles, better under sunlight, so on.
Don’t get me wrong, Apple still does better a better job than LG, Nokia, Philips, Motorola etc.

3 “The iPhone 4 is powered by A4 chip “
and
“we made the battery bit bigger”
Which should mean better battery standby and talk time.
Using a higher resolution and high consumption screen + A4 with “best” but still “hungry” it won’t matter the “bigger” size of the battery, you will still won’t get more than 1 or maybe 2 days standby+normal usage.

iphone 4

4 “we are adding a gyroscope” + “accelerometer” = 6 axis motions sensing.
“perfect for gaming” - that sounds cool if you have a full battery.
“this phones get more and more intelligent”
Can’t comment we love intelligent phones

5 “capturing photons and low light photography”
The new iPhone 4 uses a 5Mp sensor with backside illuminated sensor. They say this camera should bring better pictures.
No argument there, Steve Jobs is right, they pack more megapixel but the quality is still bad when you take a pic.

YAY flash, a feature that APPLE “invented”, I am sure that you “can’t” find any other phone on the market with a flash. But we are glad that Apple figured out the fact that you can put a flash near the camera.

“the camera also records HD video 720p at 30fps” and “iMovie for iPhone” which sounds GREAT !

iphone 4 camera 5mp

Via gizmodo

6 “Iphone OS 4 he most advanced mobile OS in the worlds” renamed “iOS 4″
This will feature “Multitask” - YAY can’t figure out another (Windows Mobile, Symbian) operating system that has this.
This will feature “NEW FOLDER” - YAY can’t figure out another (Windows Mobile, Symbian) operating system that has this.
Apple figured out how to invent the wheel - of course, our respects, it is a great wheel and they did it much better and easier than any other phone on the market.

7 Stores stores stores - buy buy buy

8 iADS -YAAAY more free apps / low-cost apps better ADS

ONE MORE THING

FaceTime - Video Calling has been around for years, but it never sticked to the public, a big dilemma is : is iPhone 4 Facetime video-calling going to be a hit ?
The most likely answer is “MAYBE next year”, because you’ll need more WiFi than you can think of, more iPhones 4 sold and

“IO was dreaming about video calling and is real now” - Steve Jobs
Where has been hiding Steve for about 3-4 years ? When video calling started. I am sure you can find $50 phones with this “AMAZING” feature on the market.

“Anywhere there is wifi” - like 90% of your surroundings (sarcastic)

QUENCH with MOTOBLUR streams together messaging and contacts so you can tap into your social scene using a full virtual QWERTY and front navigation touch pad

February 15, 2010

BARCELONA, SPAIN – Mobile World Congress – Feb. 15, 2010 – Today Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced QUENCH with MOTOBLUR, Motorola’s Android-powered content delivery service, which organizes messages and synchronizes contacts to keep conversations in constant motion. QUENCH’s sleek touch-screen design, combined with great navigational features such as pinch and zoom and a touch pad, as well as the inclusion of Adobe Flash Lite, make browsing the web on its 3.1″ high-resolution display a breeze. This is the eighth Android-powered device launched by Motorola around the globe.

“As we continue to expand Motorola’s portfolio of Android-powered devices, we remain committed to delivering more of what people want from their handheld devices in easier ways,” said Sanjay Jha, co-CEO of Motorola and CEO of Motorola Mobile Devices and Home business. “QUENCH with MOTOBLUR showcases Motorola’s design heritage by offering a compelling differentiation from the traditional Android experience, giving people an easier way to have more messaging, more Web and more music.”

Messaging is made easier on QUENCH with the combination of MOTOBLUR features, a palm and pocket-friendly design and Swype, a new feature that makes responding to messages and entering text easier than ever.
QUENCH delivers a complete Web experience on a full touch-screen device with pinch and zoom capabilities. Navigation is enhanced with a front-facing, centrally-located touch pad, so it’s easier and more intuitive to flick through the Web. Adobe Flash Lite enables rich media content such as banners and videos to be displayed and fully enjoyed on the 3.1″ high-resolution display.

The innovative new connected media player on QUENCH is not only connected to the Internet but your social networks as well. QUENCH connects you to your music with a new style of media player that lets you buy and instantly download music from an MP3 store while integrating third-party apps such as TuneWiki, SoundHound, GoTV, and YouTube™. The music search feature makes finding your songs easy while synchronized lyrics in any language you choose make learning songs easier than before.
QUENCH enables clear calls using dual microphones and noise cancellation technology, while crystal clear pictures are enabled by a 5.0 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash.
Today sees the announcement of Xperia™ X10 mini and X10 mini pro, compact versions of Xperia™ X10, which will deliver powerful and application packed mobile phones into the industry. By introducing mobile phones that are both compact and clever, Sony Ericsson is challenging the norm and defining a brand new offering that combines high specification features with a version of Sony Ericsson’s powerful UX platform specifically designed for smaller devices.
Xperia™ X10 mini and X10 mini pro with slide out QWERTY keyboard offer an open and intuitive communication entertainment experience and build on the human curvature design philosophy debuted by the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X10. Combining the Android platform with signature applications and a customisable UX platform, communication truly becomes entertainment with these new mobile phones. To enhance the experience, pick and choose from a multitude of applications at Android Market™ and co-create a mobile phone experience that is entirely unique. Users can go one step further and customise the home screen’s four corners and widgets to access the most needed applications for limitless possibilities.
The two sister mobile phones incorporate the signature application Sony Ericsson Timescape™ which brings all communication together in one place so users can see at a glance text messages, missed calls, and Facebook™ and Twitter updates, without having to open lots of different applications. The interactive music player also uses the “infinite button” to pull together all music content from the music store and YouTube™ – a smart way to search for new tracks from a favourite artist.
“There has been an enormous buzz around Xperia™ X10 so it is really exciting to be already unveiling compact versions of this powerful proposition.” Said Rikko Sakaguchi, EVP and Chief Creation Officer, Sony Ericsson. “With the X10 mini and X10 mini pro we have pushed the boundaries of what is possible with smaller devices and are giving consumers exactly what they want; two high performance mobile phones with a fully customisable user experience platform and a stunning ultra-compact design.”
Xperia™ X10 mini and X10 mini pro
>> Sony Ericsson Timescape™ - brings together all communication in one place
>> Four corner control – applications, calls, web, the consumer decides. Four customisable icons for ultimate control
>> 5 megapixel camera and video - share creations via the web
>> Music player links to music stores and YouTube™ - access the world of music
>> Android platform - with Google™ services and Android Market™
>> QWERTY keyboard - slide and text for quick and easy messaging (Xperia™ X10 mini pro only)
X10 mini and X10 mini pro supports HSPA 900/2100 and EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, HSPA 850/1900/2100 and EDGE 850/900/1800/1900.
